In the dreams she touches him, an impossibility. Alder starts it all, searching for an escape from troublesome dreams about his beloved dead wife Lily. And then there are the dead, who refuse to stay put. Lebannen is king, troubled by attacking dragons and a fiancee he doesn't want: she is an alien princess whose father just wants to be rid of her. His adopted daughter is confused about her role in life. Sparrowhawk, the retired Archmage, tends his goats on a hillside, his magic gone. Ursula LeGuin visits Earthsea again, after an absence of ten years, and finds familiar faces. The Hainish Cycle reflects the anthropologist's experience of immersing themselves in new strange cultures since most of their main characters and narrators (Le Guin favoured the first-person narration) are envoys from a humanitarian organization, the Ekumen, sent to investigate or ally themselves with the people of a different world and learn their ways. Her interest in non-Western philosophies was reflected in works such as 'Solitude' and The Telling but even more interesting are her imagined societies, often mixing traits extracted from her profound knowledge of anthropology acquired from growing up with her father, the famous anthropologist, Alfred Kroeber. She was known for her treatment of gender ( The Left Hand of Darkness, The Matter of Seggri), political systems ( The Telling, The Dispossessed) and difference/otherness in any other form. Her recent publications include the novel Lavinia, an essay collection, Cheek by Jowl, and The Wild Girls. Le Guin published twenty-two novels, eleven volumes of short stories, four collections of essays, twelve books for children, six volumes of poetry and four of translation, and has received many awards: Hugo, Nebula, National Book Award, PEN-Malamud, etc. The Other Wind lives up to expectations for one of the greatest fantasy cycles. Le Guin has received the National Book Award, five Nebula and five Hugo Awards, and the Newbery Award, among many other honors. Now Alder and the king must join with a burned woman, a wizard of forbidden lore, and a being who is woman and dragon both, in an impossible quest to save Earthsea. Ged, once Archmage of Earthsea, sends Alder to King Lebannen. If the wall is breached, the dead will invade Earthsea. The sorcerer Alder has the power of mending, but it may have become the power of destruction: every night he dreams of the wall between the land of the living and the land of the dead, and the wall is being dismantled. The fifth novel and sixth book of the Earthsea Cycle is The Other Wind. Fortunately, new Earthsea books have appeared in the 21st century, and they are as powerful, beautiful, and imaginative as the first four novels.

Regrettably, the Earthsea Cycle has not received the fame and sales of Tolkien's trilogy. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings and Ursula K.
